Abia State Police Command, said it has arrested one Nnamdi Lazarus, 51, for allegedly abducting and harbouring six children aged between three and seven years.
The suspect hails from Mbano in Imo State, but resides in the Uratta area of Aba, Abia State.
A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, said Lazarus was arrested in Aba, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Aba North.

“Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, apprehended one Nnamdi Lazarus, a 51-year-old male, who hails from Mbano in Imo State, but currently resides in the Uratta area of Aba,” the statement read.
The police gave the names of the children who were said to have been abducted by the suspect as Nnenna Ogbuogu, (f), 5; Nwanne Ogbuogu, (f), 3, both from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State; Amanda Iheke Emmanuel, (f), 3; Destiny Iheke Emmanuel, (m), 7; Anointing Iheke Emmanuel, m, (5) and Ihechi Obasi, (m), 7; all from Item, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
Police also said that all rescued six children have been safely reunited with their families.
The command said it has spread its dragnet to apprehend other members of the child trafficking syndicate, while the suspect will be charged to court after conclusion of investigations.
