The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while he was allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) agent in Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the police, the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations launched after three persons were abducted during an armed invasion of Obudu Village on 28th July, 2026.
Instead of limiting operations to the attack scene, investigators traced the communication, logistics and financial channels sustaining the syndicate.
The strategy led operatives to Muhamodu Sanni, who was intercepted at a Point-of-Sale (POS) location while allegedly attempting to “cash out” ransom proceeds connected to the abduction in the Obudu/Woru axis.
The command said during interrogation, Sanni cooperated and made useful disclosures about his role in the ransom collection process.
He also provided information on other members of the syndicate, including two suspects identified as Aminu and Umar.
“The disclosures have further strengthened the intelligence picture of the network and provided additional operational leads that are being discreetly exploited,” the police said.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, said the command remains “operationally positioned to disrupt criminal networks, degrade their capabilities and deny them freedom of action.”
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with “timely, credible and actionable information.”
Adekimi noted that the operation aligns with the intelligence-led and proactive policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.
