The Ogun State Police Command said operatives of its Quick Response Squad (QRS) have arrested a father and his teenage son for unlawful possession of a firearm.

In a Monday statement, the command said the first suspect, John Joseph, 13, was apprehended on Sunday along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road axis, and provided information that led to this arrest of his father, Joseph Kehinde, 38.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the operatives were on stop-and-search duty at 11:00 am in the Lafarge area along Shagamu/Ogijo Road when they intercepted a tricycle conveying the younger suspect.

“A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and a mask, the ownership of which he could not satisfactorily explain,” the statement reads.

Babaseyi added that the suspect, however, claimed that the firearm belonged to his father.

“Following this disclosure, operatives intensified efforts, leading to the arrest of the father, Joseph Kehinde ‘M’, aged 38.

“Both suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the statement further reads.
