The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 24-year-old Segun Alani, a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity cult group and recovered one locally made single-barrel pistol in Mushin area of the state.
The command disclosed this in a Friday statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi.
The statement reads, “Following credible information on cult-related activities at Ogunmokun Under-Bridge, Mushin, operatives immediately mobilised a surveillance team to the area and arrested one Segun Alani, ‘m’, aged 24 years.
“A search of the bag in his possession led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel pistol, which was concealed inside the bag.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and providing useful information to aid the investigation.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their prompt response and intelligence-driven operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to disrupting cult-related activities and recovering illegal firearms across Lagos State, while warning cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full wrath of the law.
Daily Sun reports that the command has reported an upsurge in the arrest of suspected cultists in the state in the past week.
On Wednesday, August 12, the command confirmed the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and cultists in the Ajah axis of the state. Recovered from the suspects were three locally made pistols, one live ammunition, two battle axes and one POS machine.
On August 10, the command said its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) nabbed four suspected Aiye Confraternity cult group members and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm ammunition in Mushin.
