The Borno State Police Command has disclosed the arrest of eight suspects, in connection with the murder of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal, a lecturer with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Until his gruesome murder, on Sunday, Kamal was a lecturer in the Department of Physical and Health Education. He was murdered by an unknown person(s) in his office at the university.
Spokesman of Borno State Police Command, ASP Daso Kenneth, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists, yesterday, in Maiduguri. He said upon receiving the details of the incident, their men swung into action immediately and arrested eight suspects in connection with the murder.
He said: “The command has received a distress call on the murder of Dr. Kamal. It was confirmed that he was murdered in his office and his car and other valuables were carted away by the killers.”
The PPRO also called for calm, adding that the police command was on top of the situation.
“Eight people have so far been arrested and they are undergoing investigation to unravel those behind the act,” he said.
Abdulkadir was found dead in the pool of his blood, on Sunday, with several injuries inflicted on his body by his killers.
Sources said the lecturer’s bodily injuries indicated he was attacked with a knife and hammer.
“His hands were peeled off when he tried to stop the attackers from stabbing him. They also used a hammer to smash his head and his spinal cord, killing him instantly,” the source said.
