Police Arrest 65-year-old arms dealer in Onitsha, recover 1,100 rounds of live ammunition

A 65-year old arms dealer in Onitsha, Godwin Akpan, has been arrested by the Police, Anambra State command for unlawful possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Ikenga Tochukwu ,  in a statement issued on Saturday said , officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, apprehended the suspect on August 22, 2025 in Nkpor, Anambra state following credible intelligence.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and provided information about other individuals connected to the illicit trade.

SP Tochukwu added that the operatives have intensified efforts and manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices while further developments will be communicated in due course.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu  has reiterated the command’s commitment and tireless efforts to rout out all criminal elements in the state.
