Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on violent crimes.

The suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations carried out in coordination with local security outfits.

In a statement yesterday,  Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer( PPRO)DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said one of the suspects, Aliu Umaru of Komu Village in Itesiwaju Local Government , was arrested after being declared wanted for the kidnapping of 25-year-old Huseinat Abubakar, from Gelede Camp, near Komu.

Umaru reportedly confessed during interrogation and led operatives to the arrest of two other alleged syndicate members, Gure Wadi, 60, and Ibrahim Yobo, 35, both residents of Komu Village.

A search of one of the  suspect’s home led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and a dane gun believed to have been used in the kidnapping.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Femi Haruna has ordered that efforts be intensified to track down fleeing members of the gang.

He commended the officers involved for their professionalism and courage, stating that the operation reflects the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks across the state.

Haruna also thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and support, which he said has boosted the Command’s operational capacity.

He further acknowledged the role of residents and non-state security partners, whose credible information contributed to the success of the operation.

The police said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command urged residents to continue providing timely, credible information to support efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
