Anambra State Police Command has arrested over 200 suspects in connection with various crimes ranging from cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam who coincidentally marking his two months in office while parading the suspects at the Command headquarters disclosed that a total of 200 suspected cultists, Kidnappers and armed robbers have so far been arrested.
He said command within the period under review also recoverd 36 pomp action rifles, 1,644 ammunition and rescued four kidnap victims while five convictions have been made.
” Our efforts to reduce crimes and criminality in the last 60 days have yielded positive results and we have arrested over 200 suspects for various crimes , had up to five convictions, investigations and prosecutions of four kidnap suspects”
“We recovered different brands of arms such as 8 Jeff automatic pump action rifles, 28 normal pump action rifles and a total of 1,644 ammunition as well as 27 Vehicles of different brands as well as motorcycles”

Itam said the Command has been involved in several trainings and retrainings of men in the low stream security operations as well as use of fire arms and target practicing training.
He also announced that the Command is putting in place an Emergency Response Unit, aimed at getting to the scene of crime within ten minutes of a distress call in any part of Anambra state.
Among the suspects are three young men in their early thirties who specialize in car snatching and armed robbery and according to the Commissioner, they sell those cars through their father who they gave one car as gift.
Itam however announced that the Command will not take kindly to the activities of Juju Priests and those involved in some traditional practices that are breach to the laws of the state and the Constitution of Nigeria.
“When you talk about cultism, you will discover that there are all manner of traditional or cultural practices that are breach to the laws of the land and the Constitution of the country and the activities of Juju Priests and their likes would be looked into ”
“If you have a masquerade that a woman is forbidden to see , why do you play it in the afternoon because it should be in the night and this culture of going to a shrine and put white clay on your face and come out to attack harass and flog people must have to be managed because it is against the fundamental human Rights of the people in the society” he said.
