Two men have been arrested by the police in Cross River State over the alleged attempted sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in the Thomas Henshaw area of Calabar South.
The suspects, identified as 68-year-old Moris Monday, a shoe repairer, and 70-year-old Asuquo Effiom, were arrested on August 23, 2026, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, who disclosed this in a statement, said preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had accused Monday of allegedly luring her into his room on two separate occasions and attempting to sexually assault her.
According to the police, the incidents involving Monday allegedly occurred on August 13 and 14, 2026.
The victim also alleged that Effiom similarly lured her into his room on August 22 and attempted to sexually assault her.

Eitokpah said that following the complaint, police investigators proceeded to the Hawkins Road area, by Thomas Henshaw Junction, where the two suspects were found in the custody of community members before they were taken into police custody.
He said the suspects had made statements to the police and denied the allegations.
The police spokesman added that the victim had been referred to a government-approved medical facility for medical examination.
Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and necessary legal action.
The command assured the public that the matter would be handled professionally and in accordance with the law, adding that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
