Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has claimed that current Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes would be a Ballon d’Or contender if he played in a dominant side like Manchester City.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Pogba said Fernandes’ quality is beyond doubt, but his global recognition is limited by team success at Manchester United.
“Bruno Fernandes, in other big clubs, is in the top three Ballon d’Or,” Pogba said.
He went further to argue that a move to a more dominant system would immediately elevate the midfielder’s status in world football.
“You put him in City, he’s in the Ballon d’Or,” he added.

Fernandes has been one of United’s most consistent performers this season, contributing 18 Premier League assists and remaining central to their attacking play under pressure.
Pogba, however, stressed that individual awards are often tied to team achievements rather than pure talent.
“When you don’t win, we don’t think about you,” he said.
The comments have reignited debate over how much club success influences individual honours like the Ballon d’Or, especially for players operating outside dominant teams.
