Poem: A dirge for Yeleweta

Yelewata

By Chiedu Uche Okoye

The world spins on insanity

In the divestment of our humanity

So, in Yeleweta, a rural setting

We witnessed feast of blood-letting.

Unripe souls have become harvest

For the festival of blood-festTo slake the vampires’ thirst for bloodSo Benue has become ocean of tears and blood.Their seeds of hope can’t sprout tomorrow

And their dying cries echo sorrow

Far beyond the enclosure of homeland

And homeland has become wasteland.

Yeleweta bears the terrorists’ gore

Tears and blood spout from the soreAnd our tear-streaked face Tell the tales of benighted space.A million voices boomed in condemnation

Prayers coalesced for damnation

For demons stealing into homes in the dark

Committing armageddon like a walk in the park
