Gunmen on Saturday night killed three members of a vigilante group in an attack on Sabon-Layi community in Gwol District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It was gathered that the attack occurred at about 10 p.m. while some members of the group were on patrol. The gunmen reportedly used the cover of darkness to unleash terror on the community, targeting the victims.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Mr Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, said the victims were part of a local security arrangement established to protect residents from the recurring attacks that have plagued the area.

While lamenting the incessant killings in Barkin Ladi and its environs, Tengwong called on the security agencies to take necessary and urgent steps to safeguard the lives and property of the people.

He said, “These were men who were out to protect our people because the security agencies appeared to be overwhelmed by the security situation in our local government area.”

Tengwong commiserated with the families of the deceased and prayed to God for the repose of their souls.
