The Plateau State Police Command has paraded a suicide bomber who demanded N100 million from a UBA branch in Jos. The suspect, Benjamin Basil, a student at Plateau State Polytechnic, was apprehended after attempting to flee the scene.
According to Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, the incident occurred on May 13, 2024, at around 12 pm. Basil entered the bank with suspected explosive devices strapped to his body and handed a note to the cashier demanding N100 million. He threatened to detonate the explosives if his demands were not met.
The bank attendant immediately alerted the manager, who in turn contacted the police. Customers were evacuated from the bank, and upon seeing the police arrive, Basil panicked and attempted to flee. He was apprehended with the help of police officers and local youths.
The case is currently under investigation at the state CID to verify the validity of Basil’s claims and identify potential accomplices.
The police commissioner also announced the arrest of other suspects involved in armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and the rescue of kidnap victims.
