One person was injured and many vehicles smashed on Thursday following a clash between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and traders in Chorbe market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The NSCDC operatives were said to have been invited by the officials of the market traders association to enforce the weekly sanitation exercise when some of the traders who claimed they were not part of the exercise revolted.
The traders asserted that their shops are along the road and not inside the market.
In the process, one of the traders was fatally shot by the gun-wielding civil defence operatives. They also smashed the windscreens of some of the vehicles parked along the road.
Our correspondent who witnessed the incident observed that within minutes the whole streets close to the market were deserted as the residents ran inside their houses and locked their doors.

There was pandemonium in areas surrounding the market like Apata, Alikazaure, Katako and Masalachi, extending to Bauchi Road, which had been hotspots of frequent clashes in Jos North.
As the traders regrouped to confront the civil defence operatives, the overwhelmed security operatives fled in their vehicle.
The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Efforts to speak with the spokeswoman of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, on the issue were not successful as his phone could not be reached.
