Jos Electricity Distribution areas of Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue have been plunged into total darkness following the industrial action embarked upon by the organised labour.
According to the Head, Corporate Communications, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah, in a press statement, loss of power supply from the national grid occurred at about 2 19 am of Monday, 3rd June 2024, as a result of the ongoing strike embarked upon by labour.
He pleaded with consumers to exercise patience as the company hoped to restore normal power supply as soon as the grid supply was restored back to normalcy.
The Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had embarked on strike to press home their demands for increase in minimum wage.
NLC and TUC in Plateau state in a memo to all
the chairmen and secretary of all NLC affiliates unions, mandated them to join the indefinite nationwide strike on Monday.
The memo was signed by Secretary. NLC Plateau State, Badung Dalyop, and his TUC counterpart, Gideon Daniel.
The letter read, “Comrades, this is to remind you of the commencement of a nationwide strike commencing on Monday 3” June, 2024 as a result of the failure of the federal Government to agree on a new National Minimum Wage with the organized labour and withdraw the unilateral hike in the tariff of electricity in the country.
“Consequent upon this, you are urged to immediately mobilize vour members to commence the strike as directed please.
As a result of the directive, the state secretariat was completely deserted as civil servants obeyed the order.
Also queues resurfaced in most filling stations as motorists in panic buying line up to buy fuel in anticipation of scarcity.
