Two persons have been shot dead by suspected gunmen at a mining site around Kuru Jenta in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State Local Government Area of Plateau state.
According to locals, the incident, took place at about 11:30 pm on Friday when the victims were carrying out activities at the mining site.
National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the killing and called on security operatives to go after the attackers.
Tengwong described the incident as unfortunate and urged security agencies to investigate the killing, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
He also cautioned residents, particularly miners, against engaging in night mining and urged them to remain vigilant and comply with security measures put in place by the government.
A resident of the affected community, Mrs Bulus Weng, who also confirmed the incident, cautioned residents against engaging in mining activities at night.
Bulus condemned the incident, saying that the victims were at the mining site during the period of the curfew imposed by the state government.
He urged residents to respect the restricted hours, remain vigilant and avoid night mining as such activities could expose them to security risks.
Bulus also condemned the attack and called on residents to take necessary precautions in view of the security situation in the area.
