Plateau: Gunmen ambush security patrol, kill two operatives

Two security operatives have been killed in a suspected ambush by gunmen during a joint security patrol along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The gunmen were also said to have carted away their service rifles.

Security sources told newsmen in Jos that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when four operatives drawn from two security locations mounted a roadblock along the route.

It was gathered that after the operation, two of the operatives failed to return to their duty post, prompting their colleagues to begin an immediate search for them.

However, the search led to the discovery of their bodies at the location where they were attacked.

It was also discovered that their service rifles were missing, while a motorcycle used by the operatives was recovered.

Following the incident, security personnel launched a cordon-and-search operation in the surrounding communities as part of efforts to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the identities of the slain operatives had not been officially confirmed.

Neither the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, nor the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Capt. Chinonso Oteh, could be reached for comment.
