Plateau: Ex-APC guber aspirant moves to PDP

PDP

From Jude Owuamanam, Jos

Former governorship aspirant in Plateau under the All Progressives Congress ((APC), Sunday Biggs, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial polls under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Biggs, who defected from the APC last week, has registered with the PDP in his ward in Mangu Local Government Area of the state and formally declared his intention to wrestle the seat from the incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

Biggs, who is of the Mwaghavwul tribe as Mutfwang made the declaration yesterday at the Mangu mini stadium.

In his resignation letter to the Chairman of the APC, Mangu Ward Il in Mangu Local Government Area, Biggs, convener of ‘Bigg Things Coming 2027 Movement,’ said he had realised that his aspiration to govern Plateau in 2027 cannot be realised under the present arrangement.

The letter dated April 2, read: “This decision was not taken lightly, having been a committed and active member of the party for over four years. During this period, I had the privilege of serving the party in various capacities, including offering myself as a gubernatorial aspirant in 2022, alongside many other responsibilities aimed at advancing the party’s ideals and strengthening its structures across the state.

“However, in view of the current political realignments across the country and after deep personal reflection, I have resolved to take a different path in pursuit of my political aspirations and in alignment with my convictions regarding the evolving national landscape.

“I remain grateful for the opportunities, support and relationships I built during my time in the party. I deeply appreciate the cooperation of leaders, stakeholders and fellow members who contributed to the journey thus far.

“While I take this step. I wish the party continued success in its future endeavours and in its contributions to the democratic development of our dear nation, Nigeria. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Political watchers see the present moves as serious contender to Mutfwang’s second term bid because Biggs is seen as a formidable opponent coming from the same Mwaghavwul tribe in Mangu Local Government, just as the incumbent governor.
