There was panic among residents of Angwan Durun-Uwa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State following the discovery of the decomposing body of a decapitated woman inside a sack at a dump site in the community.
The body was discovered on Thursday morning by a passerby who noticed an offensive odour coming from the site.
Although the identity of the victim had not yet been established, residents of the community believed she might have been a victim of one of the attacks by bandits in the area.
A youth leader in Barkin Ladi, Danjuma Ibrahim, told newsmen that he received a distress call at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday informing him that a body had been dumped at the refuse site.
According to him, “I immediately alerted the police when I received a call at about 7 a.m. that a beheaded woman’s body had been found inside a sack at the refuse dump in Angwan Durun-Uwa.”

He said the police responded promptly to the distress call, but the decomposed state of the body made identification of the victim difficult.
Ibrahim said the body was immediately evacuated from the dump site, while investigations had commenced to establish the identity of the deceased.
He appealed to residents whose relatives were missing to report to the police, while urging security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment as his phone was switched off.
