The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Mr Rufus Bature, has said that the party will soon set up a reconciliation committee to pacify those aggrieved by the fallout from the primary elections held in the state.
He said the setting up of the committee had become imperative because the party was not taking anything for granted in its bid to win all elective positions, from the executive to the legislature, in the 2027 general election.
Bature said the party was aware that there were grievances arising from the primary elections and would therefore not behave like the proverbial ostrich.
The chairman, who spoke to newsmen in Jos, said the move was intended to put the party in good stead ahead of the 2027 elections.
The chairman said: “APC on the Plateau is very much prepared for the governorship, presidential and all other elections. We are not taking anything for granted; we are not taking our rivals for granted. We are doing everything legally, politically and morally possible to make sure that we retain the seats.
“And that is why, as a prelude to the campaign, we went around the 17 local government areas of Plateau State to assess our preparations in all the local governments, identify any problems that may exist, and try to mend fences where necessary.

“My findings are that we are good to go, but we need to brush up some areas. We are not unaware that there are some pockets of discontent from some of our aspirants, especially as a result of the fallout from the primaries.
“Very soon, we will be setting up a reconciliation committee to meet all these people and find common ground for us to have a free and fair election without any rancour.”
He added: “Well, in the first instance, all primaries that were conducted emanated from the national headquarters. We were only giving them support staff from here to go and help conduct the primaries. There were even instructions that no announcement should be made from any state unless it came from the national headquarters.
“Nonetheless, as a party on the Plateau, we are doing everything possible. In fact, a committee is going to be announced within the week, a reconciliation committee, because we are all human beings. We need to pacify some people. We need to make people understand why we should be together. And that is one of the reasons why I went out. The reconciliation committee will soon be inaugurated to meet with those who feel aggrieved.”
On the relationship between the Lalong group and that of the governor, Bature said he had made it clear that all groups collapsed the moment the governor defected to the APC.
