About six people were reportedly killed when armed herdsmen attacked Berom community of Kwi in Riyom LGA in Plateau State.

The attack was said to have been carried out on Friday, October 31, at about 9.50 p.m.

President and Secretary General of Berom Youths Moulders Association, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, and Mr Bature Iliya Adazaram, respectively, said in a statement on Sunday that the attackers, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, hailed from Fass, a settlement established by way of land grabbing in the State.

The statement said, “Berom ethnic extraction has been plunged into another round of systemic genocide meted out on natives of Kwi Community, Riyom LGA in Plateau State by terrorist elements operating as Fulani militants suspected to have hailed from Fass.

“The armed attack, which was carried out at 9:50 p.m. of last night, 31st October, 2025, engulfed six people, namely, Ishaya Raymond, 52, Gyang Raymond, Dauda Yakubu, Sunday Adamu, 33, Calvin Elisha and Isaac Gyang.

“The attack occurred after the same two armed elements of Fulani on motorbike from Fass attacked and shot dead Mr. Kurang Daniel, who was harvesting his maize at about 4:00 p.m. of yesterday (Thursday, October 30).

“Information available to the Berom Youths Moulders Association has it that Fulani have falsely framed up a usual lies and fallacy to security operatives that the natives of Kwi attacked their cows which has not been proved as no trace of any cow touched or herder attacked up to the time of filing this report has factually been established after thorough search to ascertain such claim.

“This is not new to us that anytime Fulani militants have planned attack, they will always frame up false accusations, labelling our people as aggressors so as to divert attention and justify pogrom on innocent people (us).

“Therefore, the Berom Youths Moulders Association is passionately appealing to Sector 4 Operation Enduring Peace to use all its arsenals and professionalism to arrest the Fulani that made such baseless and misleading call as well as claim for onward investigation as well as necessary prosecution.

“This is because the lives of Nigerians, especially Berom people have continued to be threatened as long as no drastic measures (full kinetic approach) is not meted out on Fass and other residents of Fulani where terrorist elements have infested and made a safe haven.”
