Four people have been confirmed dead and many others wounded when petrol laden tanker failed brake and ran into vehicles and bystanders at the popular Polo Field roundabout in the Jos metropolis.
The tanker rammed into many cars, which were held up by the hold-ups that usually occur at the Polo junction in most evenings. Many vehicles were damaged as a result of the impact
The accident was said to have happened around 8 pm as fun seekers were going home on Sunday.
Eyewitness say that two dead bodies are still under the tanker that eventually stopped in front of Polo field.
The source said a roasted meat (suya) seller ran away on seeing the tanker but one person  that sell cigarettes near the gate was not that lucky as the tanker stepped on his legs.
He was rushed to the hospital Bingham University Teaching Hospital ((Jankwano) which is a stone throw from the accident scene.
Men of  Fire Service were said to have quickly raced to the scene to put off any likely conflagration while their counterparts from the Federal Road Safety Corp were on ground  waiting  for crane to lift the tanker and retrieve the trapped bodies.
The eye witness said, “The Fire Service is on ground in case of eventuality as the tanker still contain fuel. May Almighty God protect us from catastrophic incidents and may we witness January 2026. Amen, Amen”
The Polo roundabout is notorious for tankers and articulated trucks losing control and running into structures, vehicles and motorists.
Few months ago, a similar incident happened when a trailer similarly lost control and ran into a fast food joint opposite Veterinary University Teaching Hospital. The fast food joint was recently renovated and about to commence operation before the latest incident.
Few years ago, a man was killed when he tried to salvage his money in the boot of his car in a similar incident.
