Prof Chris Piwuna, a lecturer with the University of Jos (UniJos), has been elected the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He was elected by members of the Union at the 23rd national delegates’ congress of the union, which took place in Benin recently.

He is expected to succeed Prof. Emmanuel Osodoke, who has completed his term in office as ASUU President, and had put in good effort to strengthen the union and secure the welfare of members of the union, among others.

Prof Piwuna is also expected to continue from where his predecessors, particularly the immediate past one, stopped in terms of pushing for the welfare of the members, improved status of the Nigerian university system and several other issues.

Piwuna is a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, while his predecessor, Emmanuel Osodoke, is a professor of soil science from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
