Christian Clerics from different denominations under the umbrella of Clerics Congress of Nigeria (CCN), have pledged support and cooperation for the newly appointed Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite.

The Clerics said the reason for the support was because of the confidence they have on the new NCPC Executive Secretary, and his years of proven capacity to pilot the affairs of Christian communities in Nigeria through the platform of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

CCN National Coordinator, Pastor Timothy Ademola, told journalists at a press conference, in Abuja, on Thursday, that Bishop Adegbite, is a well known figure in the Christian community with strong passion for the welfare of christians and issues of pilgrimage, hence the decision of the Clerics to rally support for him to succeeds in his new responsibility as NCPC Executive Secretary.

He said: “As we all know, pilgrimage is an important aspect of the faith of Jesus Christ as it is one of the few physical ordinances by which believers, In real time, connect by faith and experience to the Holy Land where the Lord and Savior laid the foundation of our faith by dying for our sins on the Cross of Calvary.”

He appreciated the trust and confidence of the President in the new leadership of NCPC, and assured him that they won’t fail in delivering the “renewed hope” package to Nigerians, particularly Christian community through the platform of NCPC.

The Clerics, however, reminded the President of the need to work out quick fix to the growing socioeconomic challenges that have visited the people resulting in agitations and poverty being experienced in Nigeria, perhaps, as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

Pastor Ademola said: “No one can deny the fact that Nigeria is in its darkest moment, and Nigerians, sadly, are facing the heat. But things would get better sooner than we expected. So, I appeal to Nigerians to exercise some patience with the President as he pushes for a better Nigeria through policies and programmes.

Peter Abraham, a member of the Association, and a Pastor serving with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), described President Tinubu as man who goes for capacity instead of sentiments, hence the choice of Bishop Adegbite, as NCPC Executive Secretary.
