Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has explained the strategy she used to defeat actress Nkechi Blessing in their celebrity boxing bout in Lagos.
Phyna knocked out Nkechi in the fourth round of their scheduled four-round contest at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Thursday.
Speaking in an interview with comedian Egungun in a video shared on Saturday, Phyna said she avoided engaging the actress in a contest of strength after noticing that Nkechi was physically bigger.
“Everything is not by gra-gra, everything is not by ‘I too get power pass.’ Sometimes, you need to apply what we call logic,” she said.
She added, “She dey on a mightier size than me. So, as a smart girl, I suppose apply wisdom and refuse to be led by anger, but by wisdom.”
Phyna said she trained for only 10 days ahead of the fight, adding that her coach helped her develop her boxing skills within the short period.
She also disclosed that she changed her approach after noticing that Nkechi was not taking a conventional boxing stance when they entered the ring.
“When we enter stage to want fight, normally my coach teach me boxing. But as we dey stage, as we want start, I notice say she no hold her hand like who want box.

“Na there I come to understand say, okay, she want run me street fight, because she know say they no go quick dey foul am,” Phyna said.
According to her, she subsequently adjusted her tactics after studying Nkechi’s movements, while her coach repeatedly instructed her to keep moving.
Phyna said she had also promised to make her opponent move around the ring before eventually taking her down.
“I was having fun. It ended too fast. I promised her something. I said, ‘I go use you, I go use you run round, run round, run round, run round… I go use you rub ground,’” she said.
Asked whether she would consider a rematch with Nkechi, Phyna ruled out the possibility.
“Rematch? There’s no need. In life, they say, ‘Children, obey thy parent so your days may be long.’ I don’t disrespect her, so make curse no follow me,” she said.
Phyna also named former BBNaija housemate Wathoni Anyansi and actress Etinosa Idemudia as celebrities she would be willing to fight, saying they had been “forcing” her to respect them.
The bout between Phyna and Nkechi followed weeks of public exchanges between the two entertainers after a disagreement over a proposed collaboration.
