The result – driven Provost, Imo State School of Health and Management Sciences, Amaigbo- Nwangele LGA, Pharm. Elthebert Okechukwu Obiasogu, has commended the Imo State Government for playing host to two strategic and important agencies in the health sector, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and World Health Organisation (WHO); during a two day monitoring and evaluation working visit to the state.

Pharm. Obiasogu, who was until recently, received approval by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the accreditation of Community Health, Public Health, Environmental Health , Health Information Management, Nutrition & Dietetics, and for the award of Higher National Diploma (HND) in the history of the institution, said the Imo State governor, His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodimma is a revolutionary agent of change in all critical sectors of Imo economy.

Speaking to the press after the monitoring and evaluation visit to Imo by the National Health Insurance Authority and World Health Organisation respectively, Pharm. Obiasogu maintained that, Governor Hope Uzodimma has continued to demonstrate his love for functional State systems in the interest of Imolites as he launched the “ACCESS TO CARE” for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Imo State; the Scheme, which is a program under the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (ISHIA) is designed to offer health insurance for the Imo State public servants on one part and then, to the over 66,000 vulnerable enrollees under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).

As the Imo State Health Insurance Agency rounded up its activities for the 1st quarter of the year 2023, the Agency added a nod to its line of productive engagements by flagging off a monitoring and evaluation inspection of Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the three senatorial districts in Imo State; Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones.

Pharm. Elthebert Okechukwu Obiasogu, the purpose driven and result- oriented Provost, Imo State School of Health and Management Sciences, however, ceased the opportunity the medium has created to commend the Imo State Commissioner for Health, and the Executive Secretary, Imo State Health Insurance Agency; the duo of Hon. Dr. Prosper- Obinna Ohayagha and Dr. Uchenna Ekwelika, for the critical roles they played in leading members of the delegation to the different locations as they went on routine oversight function at the various state facilities to look at the available human resources, the number of enrollees, the number of staff, the presence of doctors posted at a facility, the medical record officers, pharmacy technicians, midwife/nurse ratio, number of staff due to Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), level of infrastructure, availability of medicine and equipment, service delivery and program implementation outcomes.

It is believed, with this, Imo State is one step ahead of others in the provision of health care service delivery and also with the potential to serve as a rallying point for neighbouring states in medical tourism.
