The eighth edition of the Grooming Centre University Research grant awards for postgraduate and undergraduate students has kicked off with N20million available for grab.
Application for the university research grant started August 31st and submission will close October 26th, 2026 while the Techni8cal Committee will screen the applications submitted.
The cash awards will be presented to 50 postgraduate and 100 undergraduate students in approved institutions in the country in November 23rd.
The Chief Operating Officer of CREM Consulting, Mr. Clifford Onyeike, said the research grant is for both postgraduate and undergraduate students in Nigeria tertiary institutions.
Onyeike disclosed that 50 postgraduate winners will go home with N200, 000 each (N10million) and 100 undergraduate students will get N100, 000 (N10million).
According to him, the research will focus on the following areas, social enterprise, digital innovation in finance, youth development, MSME, women empowerment, inclusive finance, rural development, and microfinance.
Among the criteria he listed includes the applicant must be a final year and post graduate students in tertiary institutions and his/her research project must cover any of the eight areas listed.
He said the focus of the research study must be relevant to the Nigerian context, practical, innovative and be capable of promoting any of the focused areas and the student from approved institutions.
Others are the submission of research proposals of 10 to 20 pages, his/her personal profile and the student will also submit the final copy of the research project signed by his/her supervisor.
Head, People and Capability, Grooming Centre, Mr. Chikezie Egbulefu, said the centre is committed to empowering people, promoting research and education.
Egbulefu stressed that the centre is interested in quality research projects from the students, adding, “we are looking at projects that are innovative to solve problems.”
Head, Corporate Communications, Joyce Ofua, explained that the reason for the grant is that the centre noticed some gaps in the social lives of Nigerians and wished to use research to solve the observed problems.
“We have 659 beneficiaries of the grant from 2019 to 2025 and this we hope to increase the number. By December 2026, the Grooming Centre will be 20 years and we will continue to empower people.”
The number of grants awarded per year, showed that in 2019, 25 received the grant, 2020 (41), 2021 (68), 2022 (120), 2023 (139), 2024 (150), the biggest since inception and 2025 (116).
