Price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also called petrol has jumped to about N720 per litre at most filling stations from its initial N640pl.
Residents of Maiduguri said they were confronted with the new pump price on Friday as they attempted to buy the product.
Earlier midweek, some petrol stations in the capital shut down operations until Thursday noon.
Until now, petrol was sold between N630 and N650 per litre in Maiduguri.
Residents said they fear the price may go as high as N1000 per liter before the end of the year.
