The Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Kassim Afegbua, has described former presidential candidate Peter Obi as a destabilising factor in the political landscape of the state.
Afegbua made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, in reaction to the recent attack involving Obi and other political figures in Benin City.
According to the commissioner, Obi’s involvement in Edo politics has often coincided with tension and crisis, alleging that “any party he belongs to is crisis, crisis, crisis.”

“Peter Obi is a problem to the politics of Edo because any party he belongs to is crisis, crisis, crisis,” says Kassim Afegbua,
Afegbua also dismissed the notion that Obi’s visit to Edo was extraordinary, noting that he is not the only governor or prominent political figure to have visited the state. He said several governors and political leaders have attended events in Edo without incidents or heightened political drama.
“Peter Oi is not the only governor that has visited Edo State. There are other governors who have come to attend one event or the other.”
His comments come amid ongoing debates and counter-allegations surrounding the disruption of a recent political gathering in Benin, which has drawn reactions from various stakeholders.
