Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sadiq Tafida, has been declared winner of the election for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency held on Wednesday.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared inconclusive the by-election that was held on February 3 for the constituency because the number of cancelled votes were more than the margin of victory.
The returning officer for the election, Daniel Ayuba, while declaring the results said they PDP candidate, haven scored 19,681 to beat his closest rival and candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Innocent Jabayang, who scored 16,379, is declared winner and returned elected.
He noted that the final result indicates that the PDP scored 19,681, SDP 16,379, APC 12,662, while the New Nigeria People’s Party came forth with 3,646.
Reacting to the declaration, Abubakar Bawa, SA on political matters to Governor Agbu Kefas, said it was long overdue as the election was not supposed to have gone into re-run at all.
Bawa said the people spoke clearly through the ballot the first day and the inconsistencies that led to the re-run were mere distractions, as Taraba is a PDP state and the party will always hold sway in any free and fair contest.
