The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been described as the strongest party in Abia that can unseat Governor Alex Otti’s Labour Party in the 2027 general election.

The Abia State governorship candidate of the PDP, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, who stated this in Umuahia while addressing party faithful, expressed the optimism that with the strength and structure of the party across the 17 local government areas of the state, PDP will win the state in next year’s election.

“PDP is the strongest party in Abia. With its membership strength and structure across the 17 local government areas of the state, we are very confident of taking over the state from the Labour Party”.

Anosike said if he wins the governorship election next year, he would be approaching governance with a different ideology “because governance is not all about building roads”.

“Governance is not all about building roads because anybody can build roads. You have to think out of the box and know what to do to better the lot of the people,” he said.

Condemning what he described as the present government’s shortchanging of civil servants and local government workers in terms of salary payment, pension, and gratuity, Anosike promised to ensure that workers in the state are paid adequate wages.

“If we win the election, we are going to prioritise the welfare of our people. We shall start by looking at the way of workers, by paying them N90,000 minimum wage and after a few months, increase it to N100,000.

“No worker in Abia will earn less than N100,000 a month if we come to power next year; it will be more so because it is what is in place in our neighbouring states of Imo and Ebonyi”.

Apart from improving the welfare of workers, Anosike said the informal sector will be regulated in such a way it will be made more organised and productive by increasing the individual capacity of artisans.

Anosike, who announced that he was prepared for governance, said a PDP government in the state will create jobs for the teeming youths and make them gainfully employed.

On sports, the PDP governorship candidate regretted that the Enyimba FC, Aba, which used to win CAF championship back to back, is presently struggling to remain afloat in the nation’s premier football league and promised to change the scenario if he comes to power next year.
