The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Oyo State, which affirmed the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Working Committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.
The court, in a judgment delivered on Friday, restrained Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and others from parading themselves as members of the National Working Committee of the PDP. It also nullified the conduct, outcome, and entire proceedings of the purported national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025.
Reacting to the ruling, the party described the judgment as a landmark victory for the rule of law, constitutionalism, and internal party democracy.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Jungude Haruna Mohammed, and dated January 30, 2026, the PDP said the verdict reaffirmed its long-standing position that legitimacy can only be derived from strict compliance with the party’s constitution, extant laws, and valid court orders.
The party congratulated its members and supporters for their patience, resilience, and unwavering faith in due process, urging them to remain calm, law-abiding, and united as the party moves forward.
It also appealed to aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation, stressing that the victory belonged to the entire PDP family, while commending the judiciary for discharging its constitutional responsibility as an impartial arbiter in political and constitutional disputes.
