The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River State chapter, has downplayed the resignation of its state chairman, Barr Venatius Ikem, insisting that the party remains intact and bigger than any individual.
The party was reacting to Ikem’s resignation letter where he cited lack of direction as the reason for stepping aside.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi, the PDP told members to remain calm, stating that the resignation of one man cannot collapse a party as big as the PDP.

“The PDP in Cross River State remains intact, strong, united and focused. Our party structure from the ward to the state level is fully intact,” the statement read.
“The resignation of one man, however highly placed, does not and cannot collapse a party as big as the PDP. PDP is not built around an individual.”
The party described Ikem’s claim that PDP lacks direction as his personal opinion, insisting that the party has never been more focused, with a clear direction to win in 2027 and restore hope under its leaders and governorship candidate, Sir Dr Arthur Jarvis Archibong.
It added that in line with its constitution, the State Working Committee (SWC) will meet in the coming days to announce an acting chairman to pilot the affairs of the party and steer it to victory.
