The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jungudo Mohammed, the party’s National Publicity Secretary for the PDP National Caretaker Committee, described Wike as “an asset to Nigeria’s political space and development,” stressing that no political party would hesitate to have him in their fold.
“The honourable minister of the FCT is an asset as far as political space and political development of this country is concerned. No political party will not wish to have Nyesom Wike in their fold,” he said.
Addressing the circulating rumours, Mohammed said the claims were aimed at discrediting both the PDP and Wike.
“It is aimed at either discrediting the PDP or discrediting the Honourable Minister of the FCT, and you need to also know that it is not the fault of the FCT Minister that most governors of the PDP left for the APC; they had their own reasons. I have consistently maintained that the FCT Minister has never, for a day, said he is a member of the APC,” he added.

He emphasized that Wike has never attended APC functions, nor has he declared membership of the party, noting that as a presidential appointee, he is solely focused on discharging his official duties.
“He has never attended APC functions. He is an appointee of the President; he is only discharging his duty as an appointee and as a citizen of the country.”
Mohammed urged Nigerians to exercise patience as the PDP prepares for its primaries, assuring that the party will field candidates and fully play its role as the leading opposition party.
“For us in the PDP, we believe we will play our role, we will do everything, we will field candidates, we will not support the President. I am begging, pleading, and appealing to Nigerians to give us a little time between now and the time we conduct our primaries.”
He warned that the rumours and propaganda suggesting Wike’s support for the APC are unfounded and would be resolved in due course.
“All these rumours about we are supporting the APC will come to pass. It is only time that will take care of all these rumours and propaganda,” he concluded.
