Former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said that reconciliation in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not optional, but very fundamental.

Ikpeazu said efforts must be made to heal the divisions in the party, as well as rebuild trust and strengthen internal democracy across the various levels of the party.

The PDP became polarised in the aftermath of the Ibadan convention, which elected the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). Immediately after the Ibadan convention, loyalists of the FCT Minister set up a 13-man caretaker committee headed by Abdulraham Mohammed to pilot the affairs of the opposition party pending the conduct of a fresh convention.

On March 9, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, nullified the Ibadan convention. However, the Turaki-led NWC, which is backed by the PDP governors, has appealed to the Supreme Court.
