The Cross River state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Mr Venatius Ikem, has alleged that the police commpand is biased ahead of Saturday’s general elections.
Ikem made the allegation shortly after meeting with the AIG zone 6 in Calabar on Thursday where he informed newsmen that his house at Obudu was attacked and vandalised on Tuesday afternoon.
He said his position was against the refusal of police to arrest or interrogate those that have been fingered in the attack and destruction of properties belonging to some chieftains of the PDP in the state.
The chairman said the Tuesday’s attack, like the others, was carried out by suspected thugs allegedly belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) adding that the refusal of police to take action in previous cases was responsible for the escalation of violence in Northern Cross River.
He noted that the attack on his house which was carried out at day time, was led by an aide to the Governor who goes about with police security.
“I have lost confidence in police willingness to arrest this ugly incident. These are people known to us and they have been moving about freely without the police doing anything.
“These incidents have been severally reported to the police and nothing was done. The attacks is being led by the same people and nobody have been arrested and they do this with impunity.
“Aside my house that was attacked on Tuesday, that of a brother of PDP House of representative candidate in Cross River North was also attacked.
Meanwhile, Police have confirmed the attack on the PDP chairman’s house and said that action was been taken.
AIG who gave the confirmation, said, “I am aware of the incident and some personnel have been deployed to the area and i expect an interim report on the incident soon.”
It would be recalled that 10 chieftains of the PDP had their houses destroyed on February 5, at Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state.
