The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has charged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, to bring back members of the party who have defected to other political parties.

Wike, who stated this on Friday during a visit to the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza, noted that a significant amount of hard work and sacrifice is required to move the party forward.

The Minister explained that during the recent PDP crisis, some members defected to other platforms out of fear regarding their prospects in the 2027 elections. He noted that the NWC must reach out to such members and convince them to return, especially as the PDP remains the preferred opposition party for many Nigerians.

According to him: “I also want to urge you to do what you can to bring back our members who have defected, thinking that the party would no longer come back. Make sure you attract them back into the fold; talk to them, and send a powerful team to interact with them. Most of them are afraid of whether they will get a ticket or not.

“You know what to do. I am sure that Nigerians will prefer this party over all of those who are shouting. So, congrats for taking over your office, and do not be afraid of anybody. We believe that God, who led us to this level, will never abandon us. God help us to stay focused on our job and work as a team.”

In his remarks, Mohammed thanked Wike for the visit, stating that the NWC under his leadership will not disappoint Nigerians. He emphasised that the leadership will work to win elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

He said, “We are not going to disappoint Nigerians. This is the hope of our teeming supporters across the 36 states and the FCT. PDP has come to stay, and under my leadership, we will make ourselves available to our teeming aspirants and those who will emerge as candidates to ensure that we win elective positions in the 2027 general election.

“Your Excellency, you have done enough for this, our great party, and each and every one who is fair to the party must attest to that. On behalf of the members of the National Working Committee, we will keep giving you all the necessary support so that our party will succeed.”

On his part, the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, lauded Wike for his achievements in the FCT, noting that through his records, it is obvious to Nigerians what the PDP is capable of achieving.

“Today, we can say that in this administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the PDP, through you (Wike), has showcased what we can do. And that is why the whole country is happy,” Anyanwu stated.
