A call has been made on Nigerians for concerted efforts to redirect the mind of the Nigerian youths to embrace positive values and shun social vices in order to safeguard their future.
The national chairman of Police Community Relations Committee PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan made the call yesterday while conferring awards on two patrons and ambassadors of the Save School initiative of the PCRC, Chief Elizabeth Mojekwu and Mr Emmanuel Gbadega in Lagos.
The PCRC national chairman who called on all well-meaning Nigerians to unite in the quest to redirect the minds of the Nigerian child to embrace positive values said the PCRC is ready to work with responsible Nigerians in remolding the minds of the youths in Nigeria right from their childhood and nurture them to maturity.
Olaniyan identified one of the recipients of the awards, Chief Elizabeth Mojekwu, whom he described as patriotic and a good example for Nigerians abroad, for taking the courage to return to Nigeria despite the challenges facing the country, in order to contribute to her quota to the development of the country.
“What I cherish the most about Chief Elizabeth Mojekwu is her belief in the country. That is why she returned in order to support her country instead of staying over there.
“We are looking for patriotic Nigerians like her who would return to the country and serve as models to the upcoming generation. We want people like you to come over and tell your stories to the young ones as a way of inspiring them. As a country we put ourselves in this situation because we neglected the children for so long and focused on the adults. Now we must go back to catch them young and bring sanity back to our country.
Responding, Chief Mojekwu thanked the PCRC for the recognition and promised to work together with the committee in the interest of Nigeria. Her words, “I feel highly honoured to be an ambassador of PCRC and to our youths. I am a strong believer in the ‘Catch Them Young’ mantra,” she said, pledging her commitment to PCRC.
Also in his own remark, Mr. Gbadega expressed his appreciation to the PCRC for the recognition and promised to work together with the committee to rescue the Nigerian youths from destructive tendencies.
