The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned one John Paul Anih, declaring that he is neither the Enugu State chairman of the party nor authorised to act on its behalf in any capacity.

In a disclaimer issued by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the NDC accused Anih of impersonating the party’s recognised Enugu State chairman, Engr Ibuchukwu Obeta, and conducting what it described as a “kangaroo state congress” where he allegedly declared himself chairman.

The party also alleged that Anih had approached a court in Enugu seeking an order compelling the NDC to recognise him as chairman of the party in the state.

According to the statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director Esq., Anih allegedly went further to forge and reproduce copies of the party’s Expression of Interest forms, which he reportedly sold to unsuspecting political aspirants.

“The NDC hereby warns unsuspecting members of the public that Mr John Paul Anih does not represent the NDC in any category whatsoever, and whoever transacts any business with him on behalf of the NDC does so at his/her own risk,” the statement read.

The party further accused him of exploiting the ongoing screening of aspirants for state Houses of Assembly elections by allegedly setting up an illegal screening committee in Enugu State to extort politicians.

For clarity, the party announced that the authentic three-man screening committee for Enugu State comprises Sylvester O. Nwankwo as chairman, Barr. Ifeanyi Emmanuel Agbom as secretary, and Ngene Helen Funmilola as a member.

The NDC stressed that any individual outside the listed committee members claiming to participate in the screening exercise should be regarded as fraudulent.

“We reiterate that John Paul Anih is a fraud, does not represent the NDC, and is not by any stretch of the imagination the Enugu State Chairman of NDC,” the statement added.
