Management of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has said that passenger train service on the standard gauge railway line will commence after all necessary technical inspections, tests and certifications are concluded.

According to a statement signed by managing director of the corporation Dr.Kayode Opeifa, “our team of engineers have successfully rerailed the Lomotive engine and coaches that derailed as well as repaired the main line that allows safe resumption of service.

He said further that the engineers have started comprehensive safety and infrastructure assessment to ensure that all aspects of the Abuja-Kaduna railway corridor meet the Nigeria standard of safety availability and reliability before resumption of service.

The NRC boss noted that the recovered coaches from the scene of the accident have since been moved to designated workshops for comprehensive assessment and further technical works.

While commending staff of the corporation for their efforts in repairing the main line and rerailing the coaches, he said the corporation holds safety of passengers as a priority hence the need to conduct all relevant tests.
