From Obinna Odogwu, Awka
There was panic at Aroma Junction in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Wednesday, when a tanker conveying palm kernel oil fell at the ever busy junction and spilled its content.
Business people and passersby in the area immediately took to their heels, fearing possible explosions. Some of them later came back and watched the scene from a safer distance.
Chief Fire Officer in the state, Mr Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident, saying, however, that the panicking was unnecessary as the spilled content was not a petroleum product.
“At about 1510hrs (03:10pm), Anambra State Fire Service, Awka, Nigeria received a distress call of a fallen tanker containing palm kernel oil at Aroma, Awka.
“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and firefighters to the accident scene. So far, we are still working at the scene to prevent it from going into flame.
“The public should not panic much because it is not petrol tanker, rather it is kernel oil”, he said.
