On the 10th anniversary of his passing, the family of Chief Igbokwuni Callistus Onuoha (1940–2016), President of the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) in 1962/63, announces that records of his student leadership have been permanently preserved in the Arctic World Archive in Svalbard, Norway.

The deposit was made in February 2026 through the Umuchieze Legacy Project, curated by Prof. Chima Korieh, Traditional Prime Minister of Umuchieze Kingdom, in partnership with Piql Africa. It formed part of the inaugural African deposit at the Archive.

The collection includes the programme, opening address and resolutions of the Pan-African Students Seminar, which NUNS convened at the University of Ibadan in June 1963, alongside The Land and People of Umuchieze by Eze Enyeribe Onuoha.

“Our father spent his youth arguing that Africa’s story must be told by Africans,” said [Esona Onuoha, on behalf of the family]. “Ten years after he left us, his own words are safe for generations who will never meet him.”

The announcement will be made formally at a Global Online Prayer Service on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.
