Palliatives: Benue Govt registers 50,000 women, targets, 100,000 for empowerment

Benue State government said it has registered over 50, 000 women to be empowered with Palliatives on Friday, 1st December, 2023 by the Committee under the Governor Alia Cares programme.

Commissioner for Rural, Urban Development and Co-operatives, Mrs Joy Luga, who disclosed this while speaking to members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, in her office, said the programme which will launched same same day targets about 100,000 women for empowerment before the end of the year.

Mrs. Luga said already 50, 000 women have been captured and will be empowered with Palliatives on Friday while efforts are being made to reach more women especially at the rural communities.

She said several Community Development Associations have already have been trained on how to assess loans and pay back, saying that in due course, they will be given grants by government to empower them to cater for their families.

“Our target is to ensure that we reach out to the least woman in the State. Our Governor is passionate about the women of this state and is committed to see that we take our rightful places both in the communities and in our homes.

She also stated the commitment of the state government to open up rural access roads and to also embark on rural electrification saying “We will open as many access roads in the rural communities as well as embark on electricity projects.

“We are proposing in 2024, to execute at least two electrification projects in each zones of the State”, Luga said and called on the Benue people to support and queue behind the Governor to take the state to greater heights.
