The Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP) has expressed strong opposition to recent calls by an unnamed group reportedly operating under the banner of an Arewa platform seeking the removal of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd).

In a statement issued by the Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, the youth body described the call as “misleading and counterproductive,” particularly at a time when the Federal Government is pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

OYP stated that as a pan-regional youth platform with cordial relationships across various ethnic and civil society groups nationwide, it is not aware of any recognised major Arewa organisation formally backing such a demand.

The parliament therefore called on relevant security and intelligence agencies to conduct a thorough and professional investigation into the individuals or groups behind the campaign, to determine their motives and ensure that no actions are being taken that could undermine national security efforts.

According to OYP, attempts to distract from ongoing reforms under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and General Musa risk weakening collective national efforts to address insecurity.

“We urge authorities to ensure that any investigation is conducted strictly in accordance with the rule of law. National security discourse must remain responsible and constructive,” the statement said.

The youth parliament reaffirmed its collaboration with various ethnic and youth organisations across Nigeria, stressing that unity and cooperation remain essential in confronting security challenges.

OYP further stated that General Musa continues to enjoy broad support among stakeholders who believe that ongoing efforts to reorganise and strengthen the nation’s security framework are steps in the right direction.

“As National Speaker of the Oodua Youth Parliament, I commend General Musa’s dedication to national security and institutional reforms. His commitment to securing our nation aligns with our core values of unity, stability and youth inclusion,” Oyeniyi said.

The parliament reiterated its readiness to support the Federal Government and the Ministry of Defence in advancing security reforms and creating opportunities for youth participation in nation-building.

“We believe General Musa’s leadership will continue to contribute positively to Nigeria’s security sector. The Oodua Youth Parliament stands firmly behind lawful and constructive efforts aimed at securing our nation,” the statement further reads.
