The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has condoled with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo following a tragic stampede that occurred during a children’s holiday fair on Wednesday, December 18.

The incident, which took place at the Islamic High School in Basorun, resulted in the loss of many young lives.

In a statement she personally signed, Mrs. Tinubu said, “I sympathise with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.

“I also pray for a speedy recovery and total healing for those who are still in the hospital.

May the Lord grant peace to Oyo State, comfort to the families who have lost their loved ones, and hope to those grieving at this time.

“My heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this devastating incident,” she added.

The stampede occurred as attendees rushed for food and gifts at the event, highlighting the need for improved crowd management at large gatherings.

Governor Makinde confirmed that investigations are underway and those responsible for organising the event have been taken into custody.
