The senatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for Oyo South, Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, has pledged to bridge the development gap between Ibadan and Ibarapa zones of Oyo State. He made the promise when he featured on a weekly radio programme, Political Circuit, on Fresh FM, Ibadan, yesterday, which was anchored by Isaac Brown.

The gap, he stated, would be bridged through improved healthcare, education, agricultural support and rural infrastructure, if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Olajide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybercrime, said Ibarapa deserved greater attention to ensure residents had access to essential facilities without travelling long distances to Ibadan, the state capital.

The lawmaker, currently representing Ibadan North West/South West Federal Constituency, identified healthcare, agricultural development, electricity, roads and education as priorities in his proposed development agenda for the nine local government areas in the Oyo South Senatorial District.

He said more medical facilities were needed in Ibarapa, and argued that the development gap between Ibadan and Ibadan remained too wide.

“It is not fair. What is fair is that Ibarapa must inch closer to what Ibadan is today,” he said.

Olajide also promised to establish agricultural hubs to support farmers and expand economic opportunities across the district, including communities in Ibarapa North, Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa East.

He said his agenda would be tailored to the needs of individual communities, with collaboration among federal, state and local governments to deliver projects within their respective responsibilities.

The APM candidate further promised 9,900 solar streetlights across Oyo South within his first six months in office and budgetary provisions for 40 transformers in 2027 to improve electricity supply.

On education, he pledged to assess schools and identify communities where new classrooms were needed, while promising better rural roads to ease movement and economic activities.

Olajide said his first 100 days in office would focus on developing a clear roadmap for implementing the promises.

He urged voters to support his senatorial ambition, promising to prioritise projects that would improve living conditions and expand economic opportunities across Oyo South.

Olajide also called on the electorate to vote for the APM’s presidential candidate and Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as every other candidate of the party during the 2027 general elections.

On his legislative and constituency records, he said he had empowered more than 3,000 youths through information and communication technology programmes and established more than 13 ICT centres and hubs across his federal constituency.

He revealed that beneficiaries had received training, laptops and start-up grants, adding that about 20 of those trained were still working in his office and supporting their families.

The lawmaker said his vision was to make Oyo State Nigeria’s digital hub, arguing that technology would drive the future economy and that his constituents needed to be equipped to participate in it.

He also disclosed that more than 700 people had benefited from agricultural training and empowerment programmes, covering animal husbandry, fish farming, piggery, snail farming and poultry.
