The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with a machete attack arising from a land dispute in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Agboola Emmanuel, was arrested over the alleged assault occasioning harm, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend two other suspects linked to the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
According to the statement, the incident was reported on September 14, 2026, at about 4:10 pm by a concerned individual who intervened during the attack, rescued the victim and ensured that he received medical attention before reporting the matter to the police.
The Command said detectives from Eruwa Division commenced investigation following the report and visited the scene of the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had, on September 11, 2026, at about noon, gone to farmland located between Eruwa and Ayete, at Abule Oba-Gboru Village, through Okanlawon Village, an area reportedly subject to a land dispute.
At the farmland, the victim reportedly encountered Agboola Emmanuel, Dare Agboola and Monday, who were engaged in charcoal production using firewood.
The encounter allegedly led to a disagreement which escalated into an altercation, during which the three men reportedly used machetes to inflict injuries on the victim.
The police said Agboola Emmanuel was subsequently arrested and, during interrogation, admitted his involvement in the incident.

He also provided information identifying the other two individuals allegedly involved in the attack, enabling detectives to establish their identities.
The Command said efforts were being intensified to apprehend Dare Agboola and Monday and bring them to justice.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, particularly in matters relating to land ownership, boundaries and other civil disputes.
The Commissioner stressed that the existence of a civil or land dispute does not confer on any individual the right to assault, threaten, intimidate or use weapons against another person.
He advised parties involved in land disputes to seek redress through the courts or other recognised lawful dispute-resolution mechanisms.
The police further warned that a matter may begin as a civil dispute but become criminal when violence is introduced, exposing those responsible to arrest, investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Command urged all parties to remain peaceful and law-abiding while pursuing lawful remedies, assuring residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
It added that necessary action would be taken against anyone who resorts to violence in an attempt to enforce a perceived right.
