The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects allegedly involved in the possession, circulation, and production of counterfeit euro currency.
The suspects were arrested following a patrol operation by police operatives around the Labo–Wesley area of the state on September 1, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, at about 7:30 p.m., operatives on township patrol intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle.
A search of the suspects led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes, with a total face value of €8,900.
The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50, who was allegedly found in possession of the suspected fake currency; Oni Oladapo, 67, who was allegedly responsible for supplying the money; Adebayo Saheed, 52, the second passenger on the motorcycle; and Hammed Karemu, 25, the motorcycle rider.
The police said the circumstances surrounding the involvement of each of the four suspects were still being investigated.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and led police operatives to the location where the suspected counterfeit currency was allegedly purchased.

A forensic search of the premises reportedly resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in producing the counterfeit notes, while the alleged producer was also arrested.
The development brought the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the case to six.
The Command said all six suspects remained in police custody and were cooperating with investigators.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court for prosecution after the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the police operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
He assured residents that the Command would continue efforts to disrupt criminal networks and protect legitimate businesses and members of the public from economic and financial crimes.
