The President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Niyi Ajewole, says Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is doing well and should be supported by all and sundry to succeed in office.

He gave the commendation during a telephone chat with Daily Sun on how CCII wants the governor to utilise the extra funds coming to the state from the Federation Account, following the removal of petroleum subsidy in the country.

Ajewole, a legal practitioner, lauded the governor on his directives that there should be no increase in fare, being paid by passengers on the government buses, despite the hike in the pump price of fuel per litre. He noted that the fact that the governor said schoolchildren and senior citizens should board the buses at half price is also commendable.

He, however, placed before Makinde a list of priorities to consider for the extra funds coming to the state from the Federation Account, enjoining the administration to increase and strengthen the deployment of more Omituntun buses to every part of the state, saying “this will benefit majority of our people. I won’t subscribe to distribution of money to people.

“In the process of distributing the money, it may get into wrong hands. But one of the things that can benefit the majority is the directives to ease off the transportation worries of our people.

“Also, Governor Makinde should use part of the money to carry out palliative work on deplorable roads in the state. By dong so, vehicle owners would not have to be spending the money they did not have to fix their vehicles at mechanic workshops. At least, the frequency of their visits to mechanic workshops would reduce.

“I will also advise the governor to utilise part of the extra funds from the Federation Account to ensure environmental sanitation in our city and towns in the state. The solid wastes and how they have been constituting nuisance on our roads should be attended to. With this, solid waste will not hamper the health of our people.

“Power generation through wind and solar should also be given the appropriate attention from the extra funds coming to the state. I have been briefed on the ongoing project by the administration of Governor Makinde to generate enough electricity that would power the whole of Oyo State Government secretariat. This is highly commendable. The government is doing well. Then, this should be extended beyond the government’s secretariat at Agodi, Ibadan.”
