The Oyo State government has announced April 5, 2025, as the official coronation date for the new Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, popularly known as ‘Ijaya,’ inaugurated the installation committee on Monday, February 3, at the ministry’s conference room. According to the commissioner, the coronation will take place at Oliveth Baptist High School, Oyo.

This development follows the formal presentation of the staff and certificate of office to Oba Owoade by Governor Seyi Makinde on January 13, 2025. To ensure a seamless and well-organized ceremony, the installation committee has been subdivided into various subcommittees responsible for different aspects of the event.

The committee includes representatives from the Alaafin’s palace, the Oyo State Government, and other key stakeholders, all tasked with planning a coronation that upholds the cultural heritage of the Oyo Kingdom.
